Air fryers are a kitchen gadget phenomenon gripping the nation for their ease of use and efficiency.
If you're not yet a user, in simple terms, an air fryer is an air oven. Air fryers are a healthy way to cook meals and replicate your favourite dishes easily at a fraction of the calories for example, a takeaway.
They save money 💰 and they can help you make healthy eating at home, super easy ✔.
Over 50% of households now own an air fryer and this is only going to rise, as people seek ways to reduce energy bills.
I'll be honest, I thought an air fryer would never make an appearance on my kitchen worktop, but visiting friends who had become enthusiasts showed me that there is more to an air fryer than I had originally thought.
So here I am, a true air fryer convert 😊. Using mine most days for a wide range of dishes, but I had never used it to make porridge until today.
Therefore, I felt it was time to try out using my Ninja and make some air fryer oats and see how it compares to making traditionally on the hob or microwave.
I used my usual quantities of oats and liquid (1 x cup oats (Simplyseedz Simply Plain Porridge) plus 1 cup milk and 1 cup water.
I placed all the ingredients in the air fryer drawer (remove the bottom plate) and gave it a stir.
Then closed the drawer and switched on the setting air fry for 20 minutes (200c), interrupting to stir 4-5 times.
It did take longer to make when compared to using a pan or microwave or for example a porridge pot.
But the difference was amazing and certainly worth the cooking time.
It was equivalent to making oats in an AGA overnight but without the expense! 😊
The taste was delicious, incredibly creamy with lots of texture from the pumpkin and sunflower seeds 😋.
To serve, I topped it with some of our mixed berry compote recipe & a banana. 🥣
If you have an air fryer, try making your porridge this way and let me know how you get on.
